The celebrations continue in the World Superbike championship. As we await the special event for the 25th anniversary, at Monza, next Sunday at Assen the series will contest its 300th round.
It all started on April 3rd, 1988, at Donington Park, and that same British circuit will also see the 600th race of the series. The total number of races and rounds are out of sync because four races have been cancelled in the history of WSBK, all because of poor weather: Le Mans in 1988, Phillip Island in 2001, Imola in 2005, and Silverstone in 2007.
Among the most active riders in the series, the one with the greatest number of race starts is Michel Fabrizio at 161, ahead of Jakub Smrz with 136, and Max Biaggi on 132.
Assen will also see the continuation of the ceremonies to honor legendary WSBK riders. At Phillip Island it was Rob Phillis, Troy Corser, Aaron Slight and Petere Goddard being recognized, while at Imola it was the turn of Pierfrancesco Chili and Piergiorgio Bontempi. Simon Crafar will be honored this time in Holland.
